Shelia Ferguson took her turn in front of her eighth grade classroom and recited a poem she’d eagerly memorized. She was drawn to Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” as soon as she read it and enjoyed the thought provoking sentiment. As Shelia uttered the last line, “I took the one less traveled by…And that has made all the difference,” she vaguely understood about the divergent paths life presents. Little did she know the profound impact that line would have on her. From then on, Shelia always explored opportunities in life, even when it went off the familiar course.
Taking the First Step
Born and raised in Kentucky, Shelia always felt there was something else out there for her. She began taking the road less traveled by enrolling in college at 23 and working full time while attending night classes. After graduation, the apparel company she’d been with offered her a new position in Miami. Shelia was at a difficult crossroad. Leaving her tight- knit family wasn’t an easy decision, but Shelia knew this path led to a new life she craved to discover.

Shelia applies her philosophy to everything in her life. In her world travels, she loves to go off the beaten path and immerse herself in the culture, and has gained richer experiences because of it.
